Don't Expect 'Cats' to Win a Single Oscar. Here's Why.

After earning just 18% on Rotten Tomatoes and flopping the box office, Universal Pictures has removed "Cats" from its "For Your Consideration" page, meaning the company will not put money behind the movie for a campaign will unlikely compete for any Oscars this year.

The move came just a few days after Tom Hooper's live-action (?) remake of Andrew Lloyd Webber's iconic Broadway musical hit theaters and earned just $15.3 million worldwide in six days. "Cats" had a reported budget of $100 million.

Before hitting theaters, Universal's "FYC" page featured films, including "Us," "1917," "Queen and Film" as well as a few animated features. It also included "Cats" but it no longer appears, according to a number of publications, including Variety.

Prospects for "Cats" earning love from the Academy seemed to be slim as the song "Beautiful Ghosts," written by Webber and one of the film's stars Taylor Swift, did not end up on the shortlist of nominees for Best Original Song. The song did, however, pick up a nod at the Golden Globes.
