Tate McRae's Ride or Die: Her Queer Team and Gay Fans
Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Canadian pop star Tate McRae came out as a fan of her own big gay following, as well as her team – which, she suggested, is comprised entirely of LGBTQ+ people.
People Magazine reported on the "Greedy" singer's comments, which she made in an interview with Pride.
Calling her gay fans her "favorite," McRae declared, "No one beats them. Nobody is better than them."
Addressing those fans, the "It's OK I'm OK" singer said, "You know that as much as you guys ride for me, I ride for you. I feel very grateful to have you guys in my life and surrounding me."
McRae wasn't just talking about those who listen to her work on recordings or at concerts; the love extends to her immediate circle. "My whole team is gay!" the 21-year-old singer enthused, before explaining the level of trust the queer people in her life share with her.
"That's the only opinion I really want when I'm releasing music," the "She's All I Wanna Be" singer confided, according to People. "I feel lucky that I have their opinion."
"We want to do the most and push the boundaries," McRae, who released her latest album, "So Close to What," just last week, added, "but it's also the most brutally honest advice."
Her new album "features 'I Know Love,' a collaboration with McRae's boyfriend, The Kid LAROI," People noted. "At a recent Spotify event, she spoke about the inherently kind of awkward nature of working with a romantic partner – especially on something creative."
"You know, when you're in a relationship, and you sing around each other, you don't really sing," McRae said of the collab. "So, it's a little stressful being in the studio, singing and writing in front of him, but it was a cool experience to watch him in his process."
McRae opened up about who else she'd like to collaborate with.
"My dream is to write with SZA," People quoted the Canada native telling Pride. "She's one of the coolest and best writers ever. I love her."
