Olympians, Including Tom Daley's Teammates, Open Up About Using OnlyFans to Fund Dreams of Sporting Glory

Olympians, including some of Tom Daley's teammates, find that it can be hard to make ends meet when prestige does not equal adequate pay. That's when they turn to OnlyFans.

U.K. newspaper the Telegraph notes that Daley's teammate Jack Laugher – as well as Daley's diving partner, Noah Williams – have signed up on the platform, which is known for hosting explicit content, in a quest to supplement the funds that make it possible for them to pursue Olympic achievement.

Laugher was direct and unapologetic about his presence on the site, telling the press, "Obviously, I've got something people want, and I'll happily cash in on that."

"I'm a bit of a hustler," Laugher added, "and I want a bit more money if I can." He went on to disclose, "I've done underwear modeling calendars. I'll do anything to hustle for some more money."

OnlyFans, he added, is "a really, really good way for me to make some extra cash and just try and set myself up for the future a little bit.

"I've never had to do a job, to work at a supermarket or anything," he continued, unlike fellow athletes who "work jobs in bars until 3 am in the morning and having to come and then trying to be an Olympian."

The ripped diver revealed that the idea to post content for money on the site came from a surprising source: His father.

"Dad was saying to me, 'You put stuff out on Instagram for free – but when the product is free, like Instagram is, you are the product'," the gold medalist recounted. "So now I'm giving people stuff which is very similar to what I post online, but it's for a small subscription fee."

While that fee might be small for individual users, the sums add up.

"Subscribers are charged £7.75 a month to view Laugher's content or they can pay £22 upfront for three months or £42 for half a year," another UK newspaper, the Daily Mail, detailed.

"Fans can also pay 'tips' for each post. The content that has earned Laugher the most in tips – £341 – was a video of him showering in his underwear in April."

That revenue stream may sound unorthodox, but it's crucial, given how little elite athletes in the diving world make for their sports efforts.

"Just like most Olympic sports, there isn't a lot of money in diving," Laugher acknowledged. "When I was younger, my dad would say, 'If you win an Olympic gold medal, that's worth £1 million.' But it's not. It's nowhere near that – and I can tell you that as someone who has got an Olympic gold medal."

The images posted by Olympians like Laugher are not totally revealing, but the images are suggestive. The British news outlet pointed out that "Laugher's home page" on the site "show[s] him seated on a sofa with a union jack pillow and just a tiny pair of black swimming trunks."

The Olympian is creative in other ways about keeping his posts engaging while not crossing a line into graphic content.

"Laugher's most recent post was on Monday and shows him taking a topless selfie in the mirror with his hand down his pants," the Daily Mail described. "He has also published pictures where only a sink is protecting his modesty."

"I understand that people might look at it negatively," Laugher told the Telegraph. "I understand the way it's perceived. I get it.

"But I know what I'm doing. I'm comfortable with what I'm doing," the champion diver added. "It clearly states on my profile there is no nudity. I'm not trying to put anyone in a bad light and not kind of making myself out to be something I'm not."

It's an idea that's spreading among world-class athletes.

"Noah Williams – who will partner Tom Daley in the 10m synchro in Paris – joined the platform in March 2023," the Daily Mail recalled. Since then, "The 24-year-old Commonwealth champion has posted 134 photos and 129 videos in 14 months, including some where only a towel or a sock are covering up his private parts."

The Telegraph noted that "tennis player Nick Kyrgios has also signed up, albeit with a fully clothed photograph," while the Daily Mail specified that "Matty Lee and Daniel Goodfellow – who have both won Olympic medals partnering Daley – are also on the site, although they are not in Team GB's squad for Paris 2024."

"I was the first person to do it in our team and there's now loads of us," Laugher told the press.
