Dannii Minogue Brushes Aside 'Coming Out' Rumors: 'I'm Straight'

Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Lest there be any lingering confusion over the subject, reality show host Dannii Minogue shot down reports of a tearful "coming out" on Instagram, dismissing "clickbait" reports that suggested she had called herself "queer" and clarifying, "I'm straight and in a long term hetero relationship."

You can't get much clearer than that.

The rumors flew after a screening of the new reality show Minogue hosts, titled "I Kissed a Girl," which airs on UK channel BBC Three. The show follows gay dating show "I Kissed A Boy," which Minogue also hosted, and repeats that show's format, EDGE reported previously, "with the female version following 10 single women as they travel to an Italian Masseria with hopes to walk away with love."

In her Instagram post, Minogue doubled down on the show's hotness and queer theme, but also on her own heterosexuality.

"The whole night was filled with fun and laughter celebrating the first cast of IKAG and talking about my role as host and eternal ally to the LGBTQIA+ community," Minogue wrote of the screening and a subsequent Q&A.

"I have been lucky enough to know and work with the queer community most of my life and I can't wait for Sunday night," when the show premiered, Minogue went on to add in the May 4 post.

"It's all about girls who like girls, bring it on!"

As for herself, Minogue noted, "there was no breakdown and I was not making an announcement that I'm a lesbian or queer" – a direct refutation of reports that claimed she dissolved in tears and came out.

Minogue is the sister of Australian hitmaker and recording icon Kylie Minogue, who is also a straight woman with a big gay following.

Reports of Minogue's so-called "coming out" had centered on her supposedly being asked about the all-female cast and saying that the contestants were "hot."

"You know it. I love it," reports quoted Minogue as saying. "I'm here for it. Is that an answer?"

It was, but it wasn't the answer that reports made it out to be.

Minogue posted that "the reaction in the room and all the follow up questioning from the host [of the Q&A] after that line, addressing me as a straight woman and ally is the clearest confirmation that this line was taken out of context and used as clickbait."

Minogue returned the focus to the show and its centering of love between women.

"Here's to the first series of I Kissed A Girl," Minogue wrote, "and let's not let this distract from this incredibly important series for lesbian, bisexual and queer women's representation on TV."
