Nigella Lawson Goes Viral with Trump-Inspired Bitter Orange Tart Recipe

Matthew Wexler READ TIME: 1 MIN.

The transfer of power reverberated across the ocean this week as famed British food writer Nigella Lawson posted a hilarious (and delicious) recipe for a bitter orange tart with a not-so-subtle nod to the outgoing president.

"Well, yes, Bitter Orange Tart just happens to be #RecipeOfTheDay," wrote Lawson on Twitter. "Apart from anything else, there are more things to make with Seville oranges than marmalade! This is not complicated: the base is bashed ginger nuts."

While some of Lawson's fans were more interested in the culinary aspect of the post, others caught the reference, including high-profile British journalist Will Buxton and best-selling author Caitlin Moran

Lawson is the author of more than a dozen cookbooks, ranging from 1998's "How to Eat" to her recently released "Cook Eat Repeat." She has also been an outspoken supporter of LGBTQ rights, previously donating to the funeral costs for a transgender student whose parents refused to claim the body, as well as voicing support of they/them pronouns, as reported by Pink News.
