'The Danish Girl' Trailer Released'

In a fall movie season crowded with LGBT titles ("Carol," "Freeheld," "Stonewall") comes what looks to be the most anticipated of them all: "The Danish Girl."

Based on the true-life story of Lili Elbe (played by Eddie Redmayne), one of the first individuals to undergo gender reassignment surgery in 1920s Denmark. Born Einar Magnus Andreas Wegener, he was a successful artist, as was his wife Gerda Gottlieb (Alicia Vikander). When a model doesn't show for one of Gerda's sittings, she asks her husband to pose as her female model. From that moment on, which is touched on in the trailer, their relationship is never the same.

The film brings Redmayne back with his "Les Mis�rables" director Tom Hooper (who previously had directed "The King's Speech") and already there's talk that Redmayne's performance is so good he might win the Best Actor Oscar for the second year in a row. (A feat only achieved by Spencer Tracy and Tom Hanks.) It also marks a breakthrough role for Vikander, who earlier this year played a scheming android in "Ex Machina" and an East German refugee in the recent "The Man from U.N.C.L.E."

It also couldn't be more timely, giving a historical perspective to the media attention and growing public acceptance of the transgender movement.
