Acclaimed Gay Comic Headlines NY Comedy Festival
EDGE READ TIME: 2 MIN.
After taking the Australian comedy festival circuit by storm and even scoring his own ABC2 TV standup comedy special, openly gay comic Joel Creasy is poised to conquer America. Lovingly referred to as Australia's 'Acid Tongue Prince,' Creasey will make his US debut at the New York Comedy Festival headlining "The Aussie Invasion," a triple bill of rising stars from Down Under (along with Neel Kolhatkar and Khaled Khalafalla).
Joel Creasy in "The Aussie Invasion" runs Nov. 6 - 9 at 8pm at Comic Strip Live (1568 Second Avenue between 81st & 82nd Street).
Tickets are $15, available at 212-861-9386 or www.NYComedyFestival.com.
Gay News Network called Joel, "The bitchiest man in comedy."
Nevertheless the Adelaide Advertiser said, "Rather than rest on his laurels as the funny gay with the quick mouth, Creasey's honesty, humility and confidence is refreshing and - above all - really, really good."
Australia's answer to Kathy Griffin, Joel Creasy recounts hilarious stories of his run-ins with celebrities (including Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake and Celine Dion), politicians, football teams, regional towns and of course his parents. Joel has an opinion on everybody and can't wait to share it with you.
Still a tender 23 years of age, Joel Creasy already has an impressive list of TV credits including two of his own stand-up specials and a Just For Laughs gala filmed for television at the Sydney Opera House.
He is one Australia's youngest, brightest, and most sought-after comedians. Appearing seemingly out of nowhere at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2010, Joel quickly became the talk of the town with his debut - ultimately earning him a nomination for the prestigious Best Newcomer Award; at just 19 years of age, Joel was one of the youngest ever nominees.
Since then, Joel has toured the country performing solo as well as with the prestigious Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow, alongside a selection of Australia's best comedians. In a short time Joel has built a cult following that is rapidly growing into the wider comedy community.
People everywhere are falling in love with his intelligent observations, acerbic style and pop-culture expertise.
