Icona Pop to Headline at Miami Beach Pride

READ TIME: 4 MIN.

Swedish Electro Pop duo Icona Pop, whose breakout hit "I Love It" (featuring Charli XCX) topped charts around the world in 2013, will perform as the headlining act at Miami Beach Pride, announced Bruce Horwich, chairman of the Pride board of directors. The triple-platinum winning Icona Pop will hit the Celebrity Stage in Lummus Park on Sunday, April 7, at 9 pm.

The duo's big breakthrough can be described with one phrase: 'I Love It'. The 2012 monster hit (which dominated many top lists in the Western World and appeared on several TV and talk shows), became a milestone for Swedish pop music. The song had big success worldwide, especially in the U.S., where the single sold over two million copies and reached U.S. Platinum sales.

Other great hits by Icona Pop are 'All night', 'We Got the World', 'Girlfriend' and 'Let's Go' featuring Tiesto. Icona Pop has received numerous awards and accolades including "Swedish Breakthrough of the Year," "Group of the Year," and "Song of the Year" ('I Love It'). In 2015, the duo released the single 'Emergency.' The song peaked in just a few weeks on the Billboard Dance Chart, making their second single to top that chart after 'All Night.' The song was also featured in the video game FIFA 16. In July, the EP 'Emergency' was released. It includes the critically acclaimed 'First Time' and the smash-hit 'Clap Snap.'

Comprised of Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo, Icona Pop has toured with mega stars Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and One Direction. On February 23rd, 2016, Icona Pop performed their single, 'Someone Who Can Dance' at the Grammis in Stockholm, the Swedish equivalent of the Grammys. Caroline and Aino are regarded as not only performers, they are also known for being talented songwriters that write the majority of their own songs.

Last summer saw the act drop long anticipated single 'Girls Girls.' Entertainment Weekly commented: "This buoyant, ros-soaked tribute to throwing down with your gal pals will have you saying 'I love it!' all over again." Seven million streams later and setting the duo up for a marker appearance on Swedish TV show "S Mycket Bttre" ("So Much Better"), Sweden's leading female pop provocateurs have never looked stronger.

After touring the world during the summer of 2018 – Icona Pop released a collection together with Swedish clothing brand Gina Tricot along with a new pop-dance single –"Rhythm In My Blood," a party anthem. The entire collection has a vibrant party pulse. Disco, glitter, pop, power and rock'n'roll – inspiration for the collection comes directly from Icona Pop's sizzling music career, where the stage is their own catwalk. Currently, the girls are focusing on writing new music during 2019.

Since its inception in 2009, Miami Beach Pride has grown from a neighborhood event to an event on the global stage with A-list celebrities such as Gus Kenworthy as Grand Marshal in 2018 and Betty Who, Thelma Houston and Taylor Dayne as headliners. Previous Grand Marshals and VIPs have included: Ross Mathews as Celebrity Grand Marshal in 2017, Elvis Duran as Grand Marshal in 2016, and Jordin Sparks as headline entertainer. Mario Lopez was Grand Marshal in 2015, Gloria Estefan was Grand Marshal in 2014 and Adam Lambert performed in 2013.

Miami Beach Pride attendance has grown as well. An estimated 15,000 spectators turned out for the first Pride parade in 2009; an estimated 145,000 attended the event in 2018, which attracted not only South Floridians, but also visitors from throughout the world. In addition to Parade spectators, last April's event included more than 70 parade contingencies, 35 floats and 3,000 participants. The Pride Festival which followed featured more than 100 LGBTQ-friendly vendors and businesses, plus refreshments, two stages of entertainment, a family-friendly play area and fireworks. Recently, Miami Beach Pride was named one of the "Top 100 Events of the Year" for the fifth year in a row by BizBash Magazine and has earned the Pink Flamingo Award as favorite multi-day event for five years in a row.

Miami Beach Gay Pride is made possible with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners and the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority and the City of Miami Beach.
