Confessions of a New York Fashion Week Gate Crasher

Nicholas Waickman READ TIME: 9 MIN.

Intrepid fashion blogger and FIT student, Nicholas Waickman, hit the men's shows at New York Fashion Week.

Using a street cred combo of charisma and charm, Waickman managed entry to no less than 34 shows at Lincoln Center's tents.

Here's Nicholas's report on the state of men's fashion for Fall/Winter 2011.

G-Star Raw:

This show was exciting, and easy to crash, because the crowd was so big. I could play the sandwich game and slip in between the copious number of bodies that were pushing to get in the door.

The clothing of the show was a bit questionable at times for the men (full camouflage body suit?) but it had some coats and jackets that I liked.

Mik Cire:

Black, more black...

There was a red leather coat, more leather, more black, some fur, and Sean O?Pry.

There?s nothing wrong with any of that, although I could do with a little more color.

Backstage at Mik Cire

I got backstage again for this show - and took pretty pictures of the pretty mawdelz.

Perry Ellis:

This was one of my favorite looks for me, what with the sweater?s shawl collar overlapping the lapels.

It looked comfortable, stylish, and warm.

Ducky Brown:

The Ducky Brown show was my first show and my first crash.

Since it was the first day, and it was full of chaos, I fooled security with a fake WWD pass that I made, and I walked right into the Ducky Brown press pit without any trouble.

Perry Ellis:

The fashion wasn?t anything unexpected, but that?s not why Perry Ellis gets a show at Fashion Week, anyways. It?s because of the models.

Everyone wants to see the show with the top male beauty in the industry!

Backstage @ Perry Ellis:

I managed to sneak backstage after the show to meet the models and that was the first fashion show backstage that I?ve ever seen in real life.

It?s not nearly as glamorous as it is on TV, but it?s still gratifying to be back there amidst the chaos of everything.

Timo Weiland:

This presentation was in the Box venue which is one of my favorites, because the models are just standing there and you can shoot away without worry of missing one of the looks of the collection.
