IKEA Hosts Virtual KIKI with Alyssa Edwards and Isis King

Budget-friendly furniture brand IKEA is ready to spill the tea with the help of drag icons Alyssa Edwards and Isis King. The Swedish company has launched a social media campaign featuring the two stars, culminating in an "I-KIKI" with the two stars on August 22 at 4 p.m. ET.

IKEA has a long-standing history of supporting the equality of LGBTQ individuals, including being one of the first brands to feature a gay couple in mainstream advertising over 20 years ago. The Kiki is part of IKEA's charitable partnership, which began on June 1 and runs through August 31.

Edwards and King, via Instagram Live, will play "Spill the Tea or Take the D (as in Dare, of course)" to create a thought-provoking discussion around their own experiences with finding their place in the world and making others welcome.

IKEA parent company, Ingka Group, states that "everyone deserves fair treatment and equal opportunities, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity."

The company's website also states:

"Our aim is to create a fully inclusive work environment where all our LGBT+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender + all other sexual orientations and gender identities) co-workers feel welcomed, respected and appreciated for who they are. We believe that everyone has the right to bring their entire selves to work, and we see LGBT+ inclusion as everyone's responsibility.

"Every year, on May 17th, we celebrate IDAHOT, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, to stand up for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and people of all sexual orientations and gender identities."

The company has joined the Workplace Pride Foundation and Stonewall, two organizations focused on LGBTQ inclusion in the workplace, and also has co-created and endorsed the UN Standards of Conduct on tackling discrimination against LGBTQ people in the workplace and the community.

In addition to the buzzy event, IKEA continues to donate 30% from each sale of the small rainbow STORSTORMMA bag (through August 31) to support efforts at the Ali Forney Center of New York City and the Los Angeles LGBT Center, up to $50,000 per charity.
